We are reaching the end of the calendar year. It is that time when people are taking stock of the year and reflecting on what they would like to create in 2010 and beyond. When taking a look at my goals from last year and what has taken form and what hasn’t, I’ve noticed I can quickly sink into self-criticism for what didn’t get accomplished. Do you relate to this?
I came to realize, though, that while not everything came to fruition that I set out to do, by coming up against my internal challenges and meeting them head-on, I grew in ways I never knew were possible. So today I invite you to celebrate everything about you – the light and the dark – and I believe this compassion and acceptance of yourself more than anything is going to support you in what you want to create in 2010.
Part of my journey this year has been about getting right with the frustrating, confounding aspects of me that appeared to be creating big blocks in my life. I came to realize that my resistance to those parts of me was creating intense internal conflict that was very likely creating my external challenges as well.
I have shifted my perspective on the so-called “bad stuff” so that I can see all the beauty and insight those experiences have given me. I am now practicing embracing all of it. Rest assured it is a practice, and one I have to remind myself of daily. Some days I allow my critic to take over still. But my awareness on this is making those instances increasingly rarer.
Integrating these parts of me with full acceptance has been challenging to be sure, and I know I am in good company here. But through the process I have come to realize something essential. Everything that is me is an expression of Spirit/God/Goddess/Source/Oneness or whatever you call this – it is all Oneness moving through me choosing to have this physical experience. It’s all one and the same – the light, the dark, the good, and the bad. I’ve realized that I want to eliminate the labels of “good” or bad” or “right” or “wrong” altogether – are you willing to take that on with me? Imagine the profound shift in the world that could happen if everyone simply dropped the judgments and the labels?
Just like when we see things in ourselves that we are having a hard time accepting, the same is true when we bump up against places we resist in other people – it is simply a reflection of what we have disowned in ourselves. Disowning these things creates a fissure and a disconnection with our selves, with each other, and with Spirit. Often we look outside of ourselves to fix it – we buy a book or program, take a course or seek out another person’s advice. But the illusion is that there is actually anything to fix and that the solution lies outside of us.
It is only when we look within ourselves that we find the answers we seek. Then we discover that we are actually Spirit breathing through our bodies. Our challenges are here because we came into this physical experience to learn something – the experiences and circumstances are exactly as we intended them to be. We are at exactly the right moment on our path right NOW…and now….and now. Each moment is actually exactly as you intended it to be!
Imagine becoming completely at one with yourself and with the places you resist in others. I suspect your level of connection could skyrocket beyond your imagination if you practice this. So let us celebrate the perfection of our delightful imperfections. Let us set aside judgments. Let’s embrace that which we have denied in ourselves and others and instead revel in the sheer miracle that is this life.
The world is in intense transition now. There is a mass movement of growth and awakening happening faster than ever on the planet, and yet there are many people who are still asleep to themselves. And even we, some of the most conscious people on the planet, sometimes fall asleep to our true selves.
Now more than ever the world needs people who are awake to their limitlessness. It is essential to do whatever it takes to wake up to yourself. You already possess all the answers you could ever need. Becoming awake to your own radiance is one of the most profound services you can bring to the planet. Dan Millman said, “As your own light shines more brightly, you illuminate the world.” I call this “Radiant Leadership”. Becoming a Radiant Leader is about stepping into your fullest self and enjoying the richness of your life, your body, and the gifts you’ve been given to do the work you are here to do like it is as natural as breathing.
You may have found yourself dimming your inner radiance and your most innate gifts in order to fit into some other idea of who you should be to have a place in this world. Know that making yourself small only serves to dampen your soul and your spirit and to create intense heartache. Choose to allow yourself to be big and bright and, in doing so, you inspire and lead others to do the same. What this requires is an indelible relationship with yourself and acceptance of everything that is you and that is other.
